Spin Up x Catholic High School: Empowering Student-led VIA

Building on our work with Jurong West Secondary School, Spin Up partnered with Catholic High School (CHS) this year to run cohort-wide workshops, equipping students to take the lead in their own Values in Action (VIA) projects.

Training VIA Ambassadors as Facilitators

On 5 May, we ran facilitation training for CHS’s Secondary 3 VIA Ambassadors, so they could lead learning within their own classes. The Ambassadors practised recapping key ideas from earlier workshops, prompting their classmates to reflect and share, and guiding meaningful Q&A sessions.

Gentlemen Programme 2026

On 21 May, Spin Up joined the school’s Student Development Gentlemen Programme, held around the theme of compassion. Students explored different “worlds” of community need, from supporting seniors to persons with disabilities, and took a gallery walk through booths by social service agencies, corporate and community partners, and institutes of higher learning. Our booth sat at the centre of the auditorium, fitting for our role as a bridge between students and the wider ecosystem, where we helped students find individual and group VIA projects to take on.

The programme closed with a call to action: every student committed to one student-initiated VIA activity, to be completed within the year.

Supporting VIA Teachers

On 25 and 26 May, we also ran professional development sessions for CHS’s VIA Committee teachers, focusing on facilitation and on how to guide and mentor VIA teams and classes.

What’s Next

Our partnership continues with design thinking training for the Secondary 2 VIA Ambassadors, covering the full journey of a service learning project from planning to reflection, with Secondary 4 Ambassadors helping to lead the training. The Ambassadors will then facilitate class-based project discussions, supported by Spin Up mentors, as each class plans an event of its own.

Thank you to Catholic High School for welcoming us. We look forward to seeing what your students achieve!
