Spin Up x Jurong West Secondary School: Mentoring a Whole Cohort

This year, Spin Up brought our mentorship programme to an entire cohort at Jurong West Secondary School (JWSS). From first ideas to finished projects, every student team had a Spin Up mentor by their side.

Workshop I: Design Thinking and Ideation

We kicked things off on 12 January in the JWSS school hall with a hands-on workshop on design thinking and ideation. Rather than just listening, students got straight to work: identifying underlying problems worth solving, shaping them into clear problem statements, and getting on-the-spot feedback from our team. To show what this looks like in practice, Project Vision 7.0 closed the session by sharing their own service learning journey.

Students then formed project teams within their classes, ready to turn their ideas into action.

Workshop II: From Problem to Proposal

On 26 January, we returned to cover the essentials of getting a project off the ground: writing a proposal, pitching for funding, and refining problem statements against clear criteria. Teams then split into breakout sessions, with one Spin Up member working closely with every two teams to give feedback on their programme plans, logistics and proposals.

Mentorship All the Way

The workshops were only the beginning. In the months that followed, each team was guided by a dedicated Spin Up mentor, who supported them through planning and execution, all the way to project completion.

A big thank you to the students and teachers of Jurong West Secondary School for welcoming us. We are proud of what every team achieved!
